Subscision is a technique used to treat depressed or dimpled scars. It involves using a special blade to separate or cut the bands of deeper scar tissue and release the tethering. It creates a new scar below and as this heals, the depressed scar or dimple is elevated making the skin more even.
Punch excision/ punch elevations is another technique that helps to lift fine ice pick scars or dimpled scars. A small surgical tool is used to lift the scar to a normal level. It is performed under local anesthesia.
Laser surgery and dermabrasion are techniques that can be used to help smooth out the surface of the skin.
